The following is a website for the Elementary Science Integration Project which has worked to integrate science and literacy for many years. The "Books and Beyond" link will lead you to recommended children's books.

Good books include: Linking Science and Literacy by Rowena Douglas, Michael Klentschy and Karen Worth. Available through NSTA press. Writing in Science by Betsy Rupp Fulweiler. Available from Heinemann press.

National Science Teacher's Association (www.nsta.org) journal Science and Children has several articles on Science Notebooks, reading in science and recommended tradebooks.

Creating a field guide is a wonderful way to have students combine science and literacy. Look under lesson links for more information.
